11-slot PCIe backplane chassis
The EMS Express11-G3 backplane provides 11 eight-lane PCI Express slots, all implemented as x16 physical connectors, using advanced PCIe 3.0 switches to create a high-bandwidth fabric connecting up to 11 PCIe plug-in cards to a host system. Each slot gets up to 8GB/s full-duplex bandwidth. It can be used with a standard PICMG 1.3 SBC as a standalone system, or — using an HLink-G3 card in the master chassis paired with an ExCable-G3 and SLink-G3 card in the expansion chassis — combined with multiple backplanes to provide a PCI Express expansion system for a standard PC.
Multiple Express11-G3 backplanes (or a mixture of Express9-G3 and Express11-G3) can be configured in a daisy-chain or star expansion topology. EMS recommends the star configuration for larger systems, since it keeps every expansion chassis connected directly back to the master rather than passing through intermediate chassis. Onboard temperature sensors are monitored by EMS Wall Monitor software, giving operators an early warning if a chassis starts running hot.
Express11 is the higher-density option — pick it over Express9 when a single chassis needs to carry more capture/graphics cards without adding a second box, or where daisy-chaining several backplanes (up to five expansion chassis, 51 slots total) is planned from the outset. That scale suits large command centres and broadcast galleries where the wall itself may be built out over multiple phases.
Because every slot gets the full 8GB/s bi-directional bandwidth of the Gen3 switch, Express11 has more headroom than Express9 for genuinely high-throughput configurations — multiple 4K capture and graphics cards operating simultaneously across the same backplane.
